Solar Pump for Swimming Pool Circulation

Conventional pumps consume a lot of electricity, but solar pool pumps keep your pool clear without any electricity costs.Solar pool pumps utilize brushless DC motors, making them highly efficient, quiet, and reliable. They are a zero-energy alternative to variable-speed pool pumps, offering attractive returns.

Residential pools typically have an aspect ratio of 2:1. The most common pool sizes you may find include: 12′ x 24′; 15′ x 36′; 16′ x 32′; 20′ x 40′. If you are interested in a geometric or free-form pool, the proportions will vary.

A 50-meter pool is considered an “Olympic-sized” pool and typically holds around 500,000 gallons of water. Furthermore, a true “Olympic size” swimming pool has a depth of at least two meters and has 10 lanes, each of which is two and a half meters wide.

The Greeks and Romans created hot spring baths to treat illnesses and stress.

At the same time, spa therapy is also a new way of relaxation.

How to Choose the Right Pool Pump?

How to Choose Pump Extension lines?

Solar pool pumps come with a 2-meter-long cable, which can be customized according to actual needs. Customers can also extend the cable themselves.

Do I Need a Battery? How to Choose?

No battery is required. If you need to use the pump at night or during cloudy/rainy weather, you can choose the Hode AC/DC hybrid solar submersible pump.

If you do need to use a battery, you must connect a charge controller. The voltage output of the battery must match the voltage of the pump. The connection method for the charge controller is shown in the diagram.

How to Choose a Solar Panel?

The power of the solar photovoltaic panel array is recommended to be 1.3 times or more than the power of the water pump. The voltage of the solar photovoltaic panel array needs to meet the voltage range of the water pump.

Example:

3 Inch Plastic Impeller Solar Submersible Pump

Model: 3DPC3.5-95-72-750

Requirements for solar photovoltaic panel array: power ≥ 750w*1.3 (that is, power ≥ 975w)

Solar panel:

3 solar panels in series:

In this case, the power and voltage requirements of the pump can be satisfied, so this solar photovoltaic panel array scheme is acceptable.

Troubleshooting Pool Pump Issues

If your pump has been running smoothly without any problems, that’s great. However, there will come a day when your pump encounters issues that need fixing. Knowing some common pump problems will help you address them when they arise.

Leaking Pump

Common reasons for pool pump leaks include damaged impeller housing O-rings, faulty shaft seals, poor thread sealant, and thread shrinkage on discharge pipes.

In most cases, these parts can be easily purchased and replaced, with the cost being only a fraction of what it would cost to call a professional. Identifying the leaking component, disassembling the system, and replacing it will get you back up and running in no time.

Pump Not Priming

When water is not being sucked into the pump, it cannot reach the filter and flow properly through the system. The first thing to look for is blockages in the system.

First, check the strainer basket and pump basket to ensure they are not clogged. Next, inspect the impeller for any debris that may be obstructing its movement. Open the pump and clear out any debris.

Another potential cause could be a leak in the suction line. Since air is less dense than water, the pump will suck in air instead of water. Check the lines for leaks and repair any leaks found.

Pump Motor Fails to Start

The first thing to check is the circuit breaker to ensure it hasn’t tripped. If the breaker is on but the pump still won’t start, there may be an electrical issue, and you may need to replace the motor

Solar Pool Pump Motor Shuts Off Automatically

If this happens, the motor may be overheating. Check the pump vents to ensure nothing is blocking airflow. If the issue persists, you may need to install something to shade the pump, if possible.

If the problem persists, it may be an electrical issue, and you may need to seek professional help unless you are an electrician.

Solar Pool Pump Motor Makes Noise

All pump motors make some noise. However, if the noise your pump is making is different from normal operation, there may be an issue.

If it’s just vibrating, placing the pump on rubber pads may solve the problem. But if it’s a low, rumbling noise, the issue may be cavitation, which means the pump isn’t getting enough water and is sucking in air.
